Hello all,

I have just aquired a Martini-Enfield Artillery Carbine II converted from M-Henry to M-Enfield in 1898. It is a wonderful little carbine. However, I have noticed pitting on the reciever knoxform, along the woodline. Is this safe to shoot through? I understand that M-E's can take commercial .303 rounds. Is this true? I will be posting new pictures of my aquisition once the February purchase board is up. In the mean time, I am looking for someone who can help me decipher the myriad of markings on my rifle and bayonet.

Thank you,

Drachenblut

Here are the pictures of the pitting:

Looking at the pitting, I would not be too concerned. The metal is very thick at the reinforce around the chamber. Regular commercial ammo or mil surp will be just fine.

That butt stock is quite striking with the tiger stripe grain.

A very nice find, well done. Go gentle with the cleaning.

Post pics of the markings and I will read it like a book to you.

So far I can see the mark for the second proof witnessed by Enfield inspector #88. The rifle was 'sold out of service' and released into civilian hands.
