Martini-Enfield Firing Pin Test

Hello All!

I have recently repaired my Martini-Enfield firing pin, and am trying to find out where to stop filing/figure out what needs to be done. Currently it mikes out at 0.051 or so, it was originally 0.068. I have some pictures here, if someone could help me by telling me if it's breaching the primer or what else needs to be done to it.

Test 1: Measured with Calipers and Feeler Gauges at 0.062

Test 2: Measured with Calipers and Feeler Gauges at 0.051

Also, what would happen if the primer was "breached" in a Martini-Enfield?

That looks like a good strike, perhaps a little too deep. To help prevent piercing of the primer, end of the pin needs rounding to make it perfectly smooth and semispherical.

Wear shooting glasses.

On my rifle, the blowby sparks appear to go vertical, not back. I never know that I have a burst primer intil I eject the round.

Thank you for replying! I'm going to be chucking it in a drill/lathe today if I can get to my school's machine shop and rounding the tip with some emery. Does anyone have a Martini-Enfield firing pin that functions that I can see just how "rounded" it needs to be?

I took a look at my Enfields, and I understand how rounded it has to be. I'll do some work on her later.
