Cleaning up a couple of poorly stored carbines. One still in .577 and the other in .303. Very handy little carbines that I may have to shoot before I give back. The butt of the .577 has RIDDINGS COY 2136 25 stamped on it.

You can see the furry rust on the butt plate of one. They were in a concrete vault with a large number of guns that got water in it from time to time. The .303 was stored nose down ( as were a bunch of others) so the muzzle is pretty chewed up now. Trying to clean up some rust and prevent further damage.

Sorry to see the condition those are in, but what a cool project to take on. Please keep us updated.

A caustic soda soak is another option to consider for dealing with the rust. It leaves the bluing alone. Take the necessary PPE precautions. And I can't recommend Kramer's Antique Improver enough as a way to gently, and respectfully bring a bit of life back to guns in this shape once you've dealt with the really crusty bits.

That .303 is marked “NOT FOR BALL”? Mine has that marking. Shoots ball just fine, but it may have a cut in the barrel under the wood. Check that before firing.
Mine was crudded up with rust and grease inside, but eventually cleaned up well. It`s extremely accurate, especially with cast loads, but that could be me.
