Hello I've been looking for a martini henry in 303 for a while to fill a gap in the old collection. I can't seem to find one, but came across a martini metford. I didn't even know this existed until now. From the research I did with the little info I found, I guess metford barrels were attched to martinis to allow use of 303. And then later brand new enfield barrels were fitted. My question is will they hold up to modern ammo? If I have any of my facta wrong please correct me.

Hi Slikker. Canada bought 1000 Martini Metford rifles in 1893. Rifles are all dated 1889 and 1890 and are collector pieces. The marking on
the right side of the body reads - -Crown over V.R. over BSA & M Co over 1889 over government acceptance arrow over VI over 1. Officially
it started off life designated as the Mark VI. The action should be able to handle modern .303 ammo but remember if your rifle is in the
original military state with the heavy barrel it may be a better idea to preserve the value by not shooting it. Metford rifling is rather shallow
and would be worn faster than Enfield rifling. JOHN

I sold bayonet ser #272 from one of these martini Medford’s back in 2015? In less than perfect shape for $1200.00 cdn . If the bayonet was mint it would have been about $3500. Can`t imagine what the matching rifle would go for
Thanks for the info John much appreciated. If I end up doing the deal it wouldn't be a major shooter anyways. Couple rounds a year maybe, just for nostalgia. I'm more for the history of things but like to experience a little of it every now and again.

I think that they are the rarest”modern” commonwealth bayonet available- only 1000 issued
