Does anyone know a current source for the military issue rubber butt pads for a MAS 36/51? I've got a lot of grenade launching to do, I wouldn't want to end up with a cracked stock haha.

Also a rubber butt pad on a milsurp is kind of a neat/unique item.

I picked one up at Liberty tree collectors not that long ago.

It looks like they still have some in stock.

What are you planning on using for a grenade launching blank?

I've had good luck with 12gr of unique with a foam earplug to seal off the case mouth. I got about 70 yards with my dummy grenade. Which was good enough for me.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check out Liberty Tree. I thought I had trouble getting them to ship to Canada, but maybe I am mis-remembering.

We had a little trouble with ignition on smokeless powder, ended up going with Hodgdon FFFG black powder, 20 grains by volume. Made me feel a little safer working with lower pressure black powder. Also the FFFG while messy, isn't really corrosive. Sealed off the cartridge using hand soap. It ain't fancy, or field tough, but it works haha.

At a high angle it lobs my grenade 100-120 meters, lots of fun.

Amazing that the sights on that MAS-36/51 can be set to a max range of 380 meters!!! That is one serious charge in that grenade launching blank, and must have produced some extreme recoil. No wonder they were cracking stocks.

Ya. They can be weird sometimes. They wouldn't send me stripper clips, and it seems to be up to whoever is processing the order weather or not they'll send you a stock, but I know for sure they'll send the buttpad.

When I tried the charge of unique back in the summer it worked great. Burned clean enough, no signs of pressure.

But I tried a few this winter and had a hell of a time getting the powder to ignite. I'm going to try Magnum primers just to see.

And if you look it's actually ranged to 400 metres. The 380 mark is actually a little before the end of the travel on the range setter.

But ya. I'd hate to shoulder fire one. That's hurt like hell.
