Hello!
Since I got a very nice and clean MAS 36/51, I'm wondering if and where I could find original training dummy grenades and propulsive cartridges for it.
Another interesting thing would be to find the training manual for that weapon.
Anyone knows where?
BTW, good reloadable ammo would be nice, too... PP.:)

"...propulsive cartridges..." That'd be a 7.5 x 54 blank. Highly unlikely you'll find any.
The standard U.S. rifle grenade might go on it.
There's a manual here. In Parisian French, of course and not downloadable. Add the W's.

This guy has one you can buy. Cheap too. $10US. Add the W's.

There is on the market reloadable 7,5 X 54 mm French ammo. I think Hornaday and FMN are producing it. In the United States you can find practise rifle grenade fairly easily. There are a number of differnt models out there and they should work. As for grenade cartridges, I have not seen any 7,5 X 54 mm and I doubt the French release any for surplus sale. I do have the techincal specification for the cartridge in French. If you are interested PM me and we can work out the details.

Guess what: it's Christmas!
About the same time I received the MAS "Guide Technique Sommaire" booklet from a friend, one notable and friendly member of this site, DaveGP :), told me he's going to ship me three boxes of reloaded Hornady prime brass with 155gr. Hornady bullets and about 30 more of this once fired brass!:D
This is GunNutz spirit, for sure!
That MAS 36/51 is going to show off its colors soon!

Thanks a lot, VS! (merci beaucoup, VS)
From your advice, I gather that trying to shoot training grenades with any rifle is a dangerous proposition unless 1) one has the exact required equipment and 2) someone has been properly trained AND does the right things.
Your comrade goofed once and he paid a great price.
Je vais t'envoyer un mot bientôt.

Aurais acheté un MAS mais on mas dit que les balles étaient quasi impossible à trouvé. Si ce n'est pas le cas, j'ai peut-être vraiment ratée la chance du siècle...

In my case, I bought my brass from Grafs&Sons. I use Yugo surplus for my MAS 49/56 because I don't want to look for spent brass under the weeds

If you want to try using the grenade launcher on your 36/51 someday, take time to gather and read ALL the necessary info. I fired about 30 anti-personal and 3 antitank grenades in Mourmelon and Fontevrault army camps in 1972.

I've seen one of my comrades receive the MAS right in his face because he didn't listen the instructions for direct line AP grenade shooting at armored vehicles and believe me, you do not want to go to bed with both jaws fractured and the loss of your front teeth!

THE most important thing to remember is to avoid wrapping your fingers around the handle; just leave your hand along the grip and use only your trigger finger.

I have launched a fair number of practice rifle grenades (M11A3's, M29's and M31's and some tpye of Israeli practice grenade) from M1903A3, M1 rifle and carbine, M14, BM59, FN 49, FN-FAL, C1A1 and even a No. 4 Mk 2. Got so good that with the FAL I could put a grenade through a door size opening at 150 meters 4 out of 5 times and with the FN 49 I could hit a junked 47 Chevy every time at 200 meters. Have really cut back on that fun because my supply of grenades has been depleted by lost and damage. Also my supply of the correct grenade cartridges is also running low. As with any activity the principle my dad taught me that "There is no substitute for knowing what you are doing!" is especially true with launching practice rifle grenades.

As I stated before, I do have the French specifications for the 7.5 mm grenade cartridges. My 40 year old high school French has determined that there are two (2) different 7.5 mm grenade cartridges. One for French grenades and and for "American" grenades.

If someone would like copies of these specifications I would gladly send them a copie in return for an English translation of the specifications.
