MAS 36 Sight adjustment

Okay, to the best of my understanding, the sights on the MAS36 are adjusted by changing the rear peep sight out. I've recently changed mine with one I picked up from a gun part store. Anyhow, I've gone from two feet to the right at 25 yards to 1" to the right at 25 yards and yes 4-5inches to the right at 100 yards.

Does anyone out there have the spec's on what number rear sight I need to correct this?

I'm almost tempted to do what Hitzy suggested to me, take the original site, cover the peep with JB Weld and drill a new hole.

I'm also tempted to just use the gun a a hot dog cooker for camp fires. The bayonet is perfect for it ...

Okay, I got off my lazy ass and googled it...

The correct way of adjusting a Mas 36 is by replacing its rear sight leaf by another one with the peep hole drilled off center.
There should be a letter or several signs stamped on the top of the rear sight leaf, indicating if it is centered or offset.

Value of offset
N = 0 (centered)
-4 or +4 = bring the group 135mm down or up at 200M
-8 or +8 = bring the group 270mm down or up at 200M
D4 or G4 = move the group 135mm to the right or to the left at 200M
D8 or G8 = move the group 270mm to the right or to the left at 200M

D = Droite/Right, G = Gauche/Left

For the post WWII rifles there are 24 different rear sight leaf available for adjustment beside the N sight and only 8 for the pre WWII models.
As for any modification to the fit of the barrel in the forend and handguard, it is best to leave it as is was designed unless you are very experimented in tuning rifles.

I've also heard some rifles CAN have the front sight drifted. Mine can not. I have checked.

What about moving the front sight? The sight is soldered in to its dovetail but with a bit of heat to melt the solder could be moved. You will need to make a 2 pin screwdriver to remove the barrel band so the stock can be removed to get access to the front sight.

Okay, I took off my sight. No markings on it. The previous rear leaf I had on it was marked D8+8. With that sight I was not even on paper at 25 yards....

Anyhow...I got this chart:

Which I thought might be helpfull, but since my current sight is not marked... I have no reference point.

So at that point, I said #### it and followed 7.62's advice. I heated up the front sight post and drifted it slightly to the left.

I figure I'll load up some more and try it at the range. I might briing my torch, hammer and punch though...
