Hey , i just wanted to ask around and see if anyone has seen these before , i watched a review on one last night and they appear to be a sweet rifle and fairly accurate from the shooting i saw.

not to mention i think they look pretty nice.

PP, some of those 7.62x51 conversions were really bad. It gave the rifle a bad name it didn't deserve. I was lucky when I had mine. The chamber in it was smooth as glass. Some were rough and ringed badly, causing extraction problems.

It was extremely reliable, under all conditions and was accurate to boot. It was shorter and lighter than a Garand as well.

The Mas49-56 only has one flaw. It suffers from a lack of factory ammunition. Yes, reload. That is an effort in futility, if you frequent a range that won't let you police your own brass, as some commercial ranges are prone to do.

I liked mine a lot. Before registration days, I sold it to a fellow that liked it a lot more than I did. Not surprising, He carried one, while he was in the French armed service for many years. When they replaced it, he never really liked the replacement rifle. To awkward and he didn't like the action sounds in his ear.

couple year ago ,i use to have 2 mas 4/56 in exc shape .one in sniper configuration with the apx 806 and all accessories and another one straight.all 2 in original 7.5 french.sold the 2 in pq province.what a great mistake from me,,,,,

The review i watched last night was on the 7.5x55 . and within 5 minutes of the program started i wanted one . they did say that alot of the 7.5 ones were long gone so thats why i wanted to ask if anyone still saw them floating around .

and yes my range allows me to pick up my brass . theres ranges that dont let you ? , how do they get away with that when you paid for it and on top are paying for membership fees , they just expect you to leave your brass for them to make money off of ?

Unfortunately, the French Government following the UN Guideline destroyed all remaining stocks of the MAS49/56 rifles. Since very few were imported into Canada, it is a very rare rifle here. A few hundred of the earlier MAS49 rifles used by the Syrian Army did make it here, so they pop-up once in a while.

1- is there anything similar that takes the same round ?

MAS 36 & MAS 49 are also in 7.5 MAS

2- also just to ask what guidelines are these you speak of ?

United Nations Anti Small Arms Proliferation Treaty, demanding all members to destroy all obsolete miltary weapons rather than sell them on the World Market.

I own one and find it accurate, simple to strip and maintain and built like a tank. Very pleasant to shoot. I also have the issue scope and the standard issue accessories for it as well.

I have a good stock of old Prvi 7.5x54 (diligently saving all my brass) and the dies, etc to reload it when I run out.

Friend of mine has one. Very well made and very nice to shoot. Ammo difficult to find and the Syrian stuff is aweful (many misfires)

The stock is discontinued, but it doesn't look half bad like that, IMO (I'd prefer all black, though).

Does anyone have the blueprints for the MAS49/56?

My thoughts exactly. I had a MAS49 and now have a MAS44 (bought on from a CGNer). Very simple rifles with a lot of good things going for them. The whole action is maybe 15 parts, not counting the bolt and sight.
