Anyone out there know where I can get my hands on a MAS 49/56 ? Seems there are oodles of them just across the border but nothing in Canada. Would like one in the original 7.5 French caliber, not a Century Arms conversion to
.308.

Only a handfull of MAS49/56 were imported into Canada, very rare rifle here. You might have better luck with a MAS49, a few hundred of those were imported about 15 years ago from Syria.
 
They are certainly nice to shoot. I tried one out a few years back. Much handier than an M1 Garand and I really like the M1 Garand.

No Importers have them in Canada or will ever have them since France destroyed all remaining stocks under United Nations Anti Small Arms Proliferation Program. All the ones in Canada are now part of Private Collections and are only available when a collection breaks up. I suggest you place WTB adds in the EE, Canadian Access and attend the large Gunshows. Importation from the USA is another possibility, but it will be a very long and expensive process.
 
i see one on gun show in Mtl the last winter and the seller ask near to 800$ for
but the rifle looking new in perfect condition

did you looking to import one directly from France, some gunsmith have in stock
but i don't know if it's difficult to import here
