I'll be the first to admit I don't know too much about the MAS semi auto rifles but I am very into these guns since the French Army used them in indochina before the American - Vietnam war. They seem
To be very well built rifles, semi auto removable mag, neat accessories. I just took these two home from the shop as keepers.

Very well designed rifles, there is a reason they were in use up to the 80s (and unlike most countries the French were actually fighting people during that time period). Hope you enjoy them.

Awesome. Love to have a 49/56, but the asking prices on Irunguns on the last batch were too much.
These threads that get posted to drum up interest might work though.

Actually I want to know who here owns one and has used one. Typical acuracy? Who's selling ammo in Canada for these?

I own a MAS 36, a MAS 49 and recently picked-up a 49/56 from IrunGuns. I love all three. The 49 is so far the most accurate using commercial PRVI 139gr. I easily managed <2" 5 round groups at 100m using the APX L806. Under pressure I am sure it could do better. The 49 is heavy compared to the 49/56 which I haven't really tried for accuracy. I read that the 49 is the most accurate of the three.

I was really interested until I saw the pricing, in US dollars. I think it was working out to around $1700cdn for a 49/56 after all is said and done. Don't have the coin for that, whether it's over the resale price or not.

Local Canadian Tire has the ammo. PPU / Prvi Partisan makes it new still. Easiest to find.

Then your CT store has a much better inventory than any of the CT stores i have ever visited. In my experience CT has never been a good source for ammo, expect for the most vanilla natures of the most common calibers. But I suppose that some stores might be better than others.
The best source for me as been the CGN sponsors, SFRC, Tradex and CanadaAmmo. I bought some from CanadaAmmo last week and they still have some, the other two are currently sold out according to their web stores.

The Winnipeg Canadian Tire on Leila has about 30 boxes of ppu 7.5 French. Last year a seller at a gun show has a new looking mas 36 bolt action for $300, I passed since I didn't know if ammo was easy to find although I have seen surplus packed in 10 round cardboard boxes.

Great! Never heard of the FR F1 before and now I want one to go with my 49/56 with full kit and scope, Refurb 36 in ex. condition, and 45 trainer!!! And they seem to be really rare, so that is even better!! :(
