My 15 year old talked me into a MAS36. I'm going to make him reload his own ammo. We'll be neck sizing to extend the life of the brass.

I know that RCBS makes a 7.5x54 French neck die but I don't want to spend $$ if I don't need to. Has anyone necked sized 7.5 French brass using a 308 or 7.5x55 Swiss neck die? We already have these dies. We've ordered the brass, haven't received it yet so I am asking in advance.

Should I also ask this question in the reloading section?

Thanks all.

I full length resize and haven't had a problem with brass life. Using Privi brass. I do find that using cast loads with powders like Unique or Red dot are very easy on the brass.

I just looked at brass dimensions drawings-depending on height of your shell holder you can likely use 308Win neck sizer.

If you can't close neck sizer on 7.5 French brass use washer thick enough to allow you to do it effortlessly.

Don't force it and anneal brass often.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

That MAS36 is really simple, especially the bolt. I mean this in a good way. Yes, I know, no safety -- still it's a well thought out design.

I've had one for years. Shoots cast bullets very accurately. Had to order a different site insert to get it zeroed , Have gotten 20+ cast reloads using Lee dies. My nephew has it borrowed right now has it his teen aged son's favourite milsurp to shoot. Cast loads are usually accurate, cost are less than half jacketed, less bore wear, less noise, less recoil and longer brass life
I was using 120 gr RCBS bullet designed for M1 carbine and 4198 powder. My nephew is now loading with Trailboss because recoil is even less for his slightly built son.
One sold at last Switzer's auction for 900 bucks!
To some they may look a little ugly but impressions quite often change when given the opportunity to shoot one.

I used 6.5x55 brass in the past. Long time ago. Neck has to be expanded (of course) and case shortened 1mm. I can't remember whether I just expanded the neck when sizing but I do remember fire forming with bullseye and cornmeal for something?? Still have some of those cases.

Seller of the MAS 36 told us to just FL resize 6.5x55 Swede and trim if we couldn't find any brass.
