Mastercraft 6" Digital Calipers on Sale

Got mine when they were 10 bucks last/couple of years ago. Ended up buying 4, return 2. 1 was within 1-thou, other was within 2-thou. Return ones were junk 5-thou+.
Battery don't last long, buy the cheap ebay batteries that does leak if left alone for too long. If your batteries are leaking from lack of usage get off your butt and reload more :).

yeah, I would not trust those for precise thou measurements...

I tried to buy 2 micrometers from them also, returned both. one had the vernier scale completely screwed, and one had the jaws not parallel.... I bought a mitutoyo after that, it's perfect.
Then same issue with micrometer, I bought a mitutoyo, it's awesome.

Bought a pair. Measurements randomly jump ahead by 2 hundredths of an inch and therefore give offset measurements and require constant zeroing. Not 100% sure what CT refund policy is, but from their website it looks like I'm going to have to go through the mastercraft for a replacement. Not worth my time for $13.

No bueno.

Take them back, they will exchange them, and try another pair right in the store before you leave.

Pricey but nice to have especially for precision shooting

I use the calipers as a gauge. If I use a case gauge on my .45acp with Hornady XTP's they look ok but won't feed in my 1911. I seat them a bit deeper and they cycle no problem. For them, I use the sample method above and use my calipers to gauge them.

I bought a second because of the sale price. My first one is great! The most recent one i bought i exchanged for another. It was .005 out on most measurements and when opening the calier for measurements it felt gritty and would only open 3" wide. The one i got in exchange was of better quality and accurate as the first.

That makes no sense at all. You consider your first pair to be great? Yet the things you say it did means that your first set was TOTAL JUNK!

And .005 is hardly a claim of extreme accuracy. You need to up your expectations on this stuff. When working with machined pieces .001 can be a hell of a big difference. If you can't measure to better than being able to read a half or less of a thou then your tool is junk.

Hell, even the cheap 99 cent plastic calipers will measure to .005 inch.

Nothing I'm reading about the quality of the cheap digital calipers is making me want to buy any more. I've got a bunch of the "cheap" dial calipers and all of them but one which I dropped is still able to measure the 1 and 2 inch standards from my micrometer sets to exactly what they should be within a needle's width of the proper readings. So call it about .0003 at most error.
