Just a public Service Notice. On sale at Canadian Tire this week for $14.99. I didn't have one so I stopped by to pick one up. Picked up some Lemon Shine for wet Brass cleaning also. Only place I have been able to find Lemon Shine.

It's okay for crude dimensions. They display down to .001" but they aren't even close to accurate. Mine is regularly off by as much as .002" to sometimes .005" compared to gauge blocks or much better calipers. I retired mine to wood working purposes since .005" isn't a big deal. For reloading I use better calipers and for bullet diameters I use micrometers.

I use these in the shop because I am tough on these things usually breaking the glass or spilling chemicals on them. In comparison to my Mitutoyo (which lives in my office) they compare favourably. I throw them out when too beat up. They display 0.00mm or 0.000". They come with crappy batteries so buy a dozen for cheap on ebay.

Nice. The one i picked up a while ago was only 0.00 resolution, so i took it back. Must have been a different model... Couldn't find a better one so i got a dial caliper instead from Princess auto.

What's the warranty like on those? 1- year or lifetime?

Mastercraft vernier calipers are 100% $h!T
If knew then what I know now I would have just bought a pair of Mitatoyo's in the first place. I've gone through 4 of the mastercrafts and my Mitatoyos are still working on the same battery after 2 years AND still zero and have not required a reset or disassembly to get operational again.....My old Mastercrafts were battery killing, random measurement reading POS.
Couldn't get the same measurement twice with them and occasionaly would give you a stupid reading like: 42.9875"...?! They were only 6" calipers.

The calipers switch between metric and inch

0.00 metric reolution and 0.000 inch resolution.
All you had to do was puch the blue inch/mm button

My master cra-p calipers are great, had them for 5 years. Only use them for reloading. Tested them at my old work when I bought them, and they were good to go.

Thanks, but nope. Had ones that only went to 0.00 inches, or 0.0 mm. In fact, I still have one pair that does that from PA - and i didn't need a second one.

Huh...well that's useless. Wonder why they would do that? With the numerous Chinese(PRC) Taiwanese etc. Made calipers available at: Princess Auto, Busy bee, KMG, Lee Valley, fasten-all and the like you would think that having the Mastercraft symbol stamped on one of them would be cheap enough. Princess Auto sells $12 cheapo digital calipers all day every day....but the chincyness of CanadianTire never ceases to amaze me. I know for a fact that many of their $100+ items cost them $9 or so.
LoL I wonder if you can get Dollar store calipers yet?

Would you agree that $14.99 is better than their regular price of $39.99? They work better than having no digital calipers. I loaded my first test rounds for my 223 and the OAL of my reloads are far more consistent than any of the factory ammo I have. Maybe Winchester and Federal should buy a set. Close enough must be their moto. Just having some fun on this winter afternoon guys.

It's all about repeatability, they work, or they don't. They are poor tools, but mine works just fine. I always get the same number on my test round. What more do I need. I would like a good one one day, maybe for x-mass, or I could by more bullets.

The last one I bought has a small "5" that flashes in the fourth decimal place.
They can be re-zeroed at any time.
The last batteries bought were 5 for $1.12 at the dollar store which beats buying one at London Drugs for $5.00.
I have three now which begs to ask . . . now where is that other one.
But I still have my Craftsman, bought in the States in 1968 but I should have a loupe attached to it permanently!

I bought a set that crapped out after 6 months. Display value blinks up and down at random. I picked up a set of Pro Point calipers from PA and checked them against the gauge blocks at work. They are bang on.

Auggie D.

I use them for work for rougher measurments, seem to last about 6month to a year then they get tossed. For the price there decent and save me beating up my 300$ set for stuff that doesn't require that fine of accuracy. I've seen one set that was out by .015" though.

I have several sets of these now, I have seen them for $9.99 on times. Just as cheap to buy extra calipers on sale than to buy the batteries that go in them lol
