mastercraft digital caliper?

They work okay.
Just take the instruction booklet out.
If it slips over the push on/off button,
you will have dead batteries and go WTF......agin?

I use them at work making jet and helicopter parts, and they're good enough for a digital caliper. I don't trust them within .002 or so, or any caliper for that matter, as they're simply not designed to be that accurate, and the contact points wear over time. It will do for now.

My reloading bench is equipped with 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 micrometers. Even cheap chinese ones have carbide anvils and will last justabout forever. I've probably measured 10k parts with a $45 chinese 0-1 mic and it's as good as it was out of the box. The more expensive ones aren't more accurate, just more bells and whistles, better clicks in the ratchet, smoother movement.

Mine are just about useless. Never repeatable and way off. I'm in the market for a hi end one

sounds like you have a bummer pair as it seems the all around consensus is they are fine, I would spend another 25 bucks and try again before i spent 150 especially if i am only using it to measure bullets and the like
just my two cents ;)

????!!!!! Cheap, Chineese mic's are garbage!
Their threads have backlash that no amount of adjusting will remidy. They constantly loose zero and their anvis don't always alighn streight even!

Its a lot more than bells and whistles.
I use Mititoyu and Starrett mics every day all day. Belive me, when I go to my Dads to play with his antiques....I bring my own mics for a reason...(Mastercraft mics=Chineese junk).
In short..they're better than a tape measure but not much.

To answer the original question.....
The CT vernier calipers will do the job for a beginer...(they are better than the Mastercraft mics) Don't trust them to be 0.001 accurate though....they claim +/- 0.0005 but its more like +/- 0.002>3 They eat batteries even when left OFF. And they will go screwey when cold.

I have used a mastercraft digital for a couple years now and have no complaints. If you are not using it regular take the battery out and stick it in the little hole in the case so it does not get lost. If you need a micrometre for loading bullets you must be a really good shot.

I usually use a Home Depot set, but I picked the CT ones up on sale and the readings were way off. I then remembered what happend with my other set when the battery was low. Changed battery and they kept their zero and read fine. Even if you don't use them much you will need to change the battery every 6 months or so. Buy 2 spares so you don't have to run out and look for a battery on a sunday night.

Mine work great!

Dillion and others that charge $50 look to be the exact same ones. Same covers and design. $15 for calipers and 2 batteries, yes please!!!

Have the exact one for over tens years now and still using the same battery. I have measuered tested more expensive units but they weren't any better ! It's a great buy, you can't go wrong.

I have two sets and they work fine. You would be surprised how many things are made in China these days. Don't be fooled just because it has a higher end name sticker on it. For the price you can't go wrong.
