Is there a difference between say , Hornady and Sierra match bullets? Is one so superior to the other that its really no choice ?

Thanks,

Craig

I think so, but then some people have success with Hornady anyway :). If you look at who's winning what, there are a lot more Sierra bullets in the winners circle.

In 1000 yard benchrest and in F-class open anyone winning with production bullets ie Sierra, is selecting them by body length, weight, Juenke performance, and meplat uniforming. You don't just go to the local outlet and load a box of 100.

I've had all bad luck with Hornady's, even after they change the ogive.

Sierra's and Noslers print the same POI out of most rifles.

Personally, if I have to do that much sorting with a match bullet, that is not a match bullet.

There are now a variety of true custom bullet makers whose product can be used right out of the box as is.

Sierra does have have good and bad runs of bullets which started the whole sorting thing.

I have had excellent results with Hornady and use them as is. Lapua is another brand I have seen great results from.

so if you need to cull 20 to 50% of your bullets, why spend that much money and waste that much time. Just get a batch of hunting bullets and you will get the same results.

I have never had luck with Hornady A-Max 155's. Sierra's are good, Nosler's, I think are a little bit better at least in my last barrel. I will try some Lapua's this weekend at the NCRRA Long Range Match. Should be interesting shooting 700, 800 and 900m with a 25 yard zero and a barrel with all of 11 rounds down the pipe:eek:

In my 6BR lapuas shoot better than Amax's.
I use Alberta Wildcats for most of my stuff, but my buddy maintains they don't fly as well as Seirra Palmas.

They work for me however....

Lapua Bullets certainly have the edge, at least in 6.5mm. Norma hard-point boat-tails have good ballistic coefficient, but are not as accurate as Sierras.
My own 139 6.5 RBT's shoot about as well as Sierra.;)
