Match chamber

MKII is a great design made for the least amount of money... They clean up very nicely and work slick as any top tier rifle WHEN, all QC issues are addressed.

Get rid of all the sharp corners. Mags will likely need to be sorted out too for fit and from splitting. Extraction is another 'why not just fix it at the factory' problem

So far, most of the rifles I have played with had great barrels... and they all responded well to SK RM and Lapua CX.

I have owned various BRNO rifles and competed with them. A number of CZs for friends and customers. Very nice design and often, little fuss out of the box. Their match chamber actually is a tighter chamber and can respond very well to the better match ammo. SK LRM seems to be considered faves for a number of shooters. These barrel definitely need to test the upcoming Lapua 'fast' ammo.

For mid range shooting (out to 300yds), MKii can do very well with the right TLC. Like so many US manf rifles, why not just charge $50 more and offer a rifle that will run to its potential out of the box?

Good luck and I hope you get yours sorted.

Jerry

Well wouldnt that take a big bite out of your business?? Your 100 percent correct but this is life today. Clip corners to increase profit margins. The main reason I will never own a Savage or Browning firearm ever again. PLASTIC JUNK. When a gun company worries more about selling seat covers and people branded clothing more than building quality firearms like they use too. Well just stop buying their overpriced plastic garbage.

There isn't a speck of plastic on my Savage. Granted I have it in a different stock, but it is 100% steel.

Please post a picture showing what a match chamber can do in a quality barrel.

Remington 40XB with a Lilja barrel Eley Match Chamber. Barrel is Stamped DRS.
Targets and groups shot on "Game Day" do have greater significance.

The ammunition was was tested at 100 yards and appeared to be the best of the lots tested without the tuner.

This is further to Glenn's comments below:

The stock is a MacMillan and was used by the first owner in ARA Competitions in the USA. The trigger is a factory 2oz. that was bumped to 4 oz. for consistency.

Three wind flags are set up at 5-7, 15-20, and 60-65 yards on the left side of my targets.

Since the Chamber is "Eley Match", Eley Match ammo is my choice, test for that is available in case lots and over time two cases have be bought.

Not looking forward to the day when either the ammo runs out or the shooter's best before date or expiry date coincides!

horseman2 shows excellent results on his target.

But readers should keep in mind that a picture showing excellent results can't prove that they are the product of the match chamber.

In addition to shooter ability and a good chamber, excellent results are the product of several things, including the following below.

A good barrel, preferably heavy, with a very good bore.
A good set-up for shooting, including bench and rest. The rifle should have a suitable stock and a very light trigger pull.
An absence of wind or excellent applied wind reading skills with the use of wind flags.
Well chosen, lot selected ammo. (Not by brand or variety -- e.g. Eley Team, Match, or Tenex).

Without the selected ammo, all else doesn't matter a whit, because no rifle can out shoot the ammo it's given.

Very impressive shooting Horseman2. Fine results from a fine rifle with great ammo and a good man steering! Kudos. Im thinkin the lad on the bench behind is gonna give you a headache at the next match. HAHA I seriously hope you dont shoot much or more lots of this ammo are found. Cheers Chris

I will guarantee if you run a standard .22 LR reamer into that match quality barrel, opening up that match .22 LR chamber, that rifle will not shoot as well...

I doubt you will convince Mel to try it though.

Serious benchrest shooters attempting to shoot the smallest groups want all the benefits available... quality action, barrel, match chamber and ammunition... all are required.

Im assuming the DRS is compliments of your smithing. Despite what some perceive. A Ferrari will always be a Ferrari and some will be better than others but itll always be a Ferrari and not a Hyundai! Now a Hyundai piloted by a super skilled driver may beat a Ferrari driven by an idiot. The best gun in the world is only as good as the ammo and the fool steering it. Im pretty sure the people competing against this rifle/shooter/ammo combination would disagree

The Hyundai works not bad, actually very consistent with all the ammo, but with cheaper stuff like Tac 22 and CCI, I have a hard time getting 5 rounds without a flyer. The SK was the most consistent, but $17 per 50 rounds, so should be :)
