Match grade bullet for a 243win (6mm)

Just purchased an SPS Varmint in 243win as my intro into long range shooting firearm.

This gun is strictly for punching paper targets so I'd like to find some match grade bullets to use for it.

The gun has a 26'' heavy barrel with a 1-9 1/8 twist. I imagine I'll have to keep the bullets under 100gr.

I was hoping to find a Sierra Match King or a Hornady A-Max. I know Berger has an excellent reputation but I've heard they're picking with seating depths so I figured I'd stay away.

I see on Sierras website, they make a 6mm 95gr HPBT Gameking which looks like it would fit the requirements nicely. Problem is I cant seem to find them anywhere.

The next best thing looks like a 100gr SBT Gameking or a 90gr FMJBT Gameking.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a 6mm match grade bullet which is around the 90-100gr?
 
V-Max and Gamekings are hunting bullets. They'll do nicely for informal target shooting though. Hornady makes a 105 grain A-Max. Sierra makes a 95 and 107 grain Matchking. Plus the 105gr Lapua Scenar$.

"...Problem is I cant seem to find them anywhere..." You should be able to order 'em. Be prepared to pay up front. Downside is that you should work up a load before buying in bulk. It's not worth ordering one box.
I'd be thinking IMR4064 or IMR4350. Mind you, match bullets of any kind would be a waste of money out of my .243. Even with the trigger job and glass bedding my barrel's not up to match bullets.
 
I just bought some 100 gr. Sierra Gamekings....I had the option for 107 gr mathkings....those 107's should be nice for long range paper punching and im sure someone has punched a deer with them too !
 
I only have a 1-9 twist on the barrel. Berger and Sierra suggest you need a 1-7 for the 105 and 107gr bullets.

I think the 90-95gr. range is ideal for the 1-9 twist. Might even be able to get away with a 100gr bullet.

Im going to be shooting paper only so I'd prefer a match bullet or something with a higher BC over a bullet that expands well.

I dont mind ordering a single box of bullets to try out (I'm sure I can always find something else to add to the order). Just need to find someone who has them.
I cant seem to find any in Calgary, Red Deer or Edmonton.

I've emailed Sierra to see if they can give me a list of other dealers I can try.

I might check out the Berger 95gr bullet Tod suggested. Always an option.

Powder wise, I'll probably try out the H4350 since I already have some at home for my 30-06 and 338wm.
 
My SPS varmint shot really well with the Berger 105 BT (not the 105 VLD) and the Berger 90 BT shot exeptional. It would not shoot the Berger 95 VLD or the Sierra 95 gr HPBT. They would both tumble at 1000 yards. All bullets were seated 5 thous off the lands

Ive shot the 140gr VLD in my 260. I was single loading them with the bullet just touching the rifling. They were very accurate. If you're looking for a magazine fed OAL load I'd try the 90 or 95gr Nosler Ballistic tips or a 90gr Berger match BT

Yup. Just double checked. 1-8 except with the big 115gr Bergers they suggest the 1-7.

I was down at WSS last night and couldnt find anything in the Bergers that would work and even the selection of the Sierras were limited.

Figured the next best thing to the 95gr Matchkings would be the 90gr. FMJ Gamekings.

I'll give them a try and see how they do.

They might not be exactly what I wanted but at least I can now get out shooting. You never know, they might even turn out as shooters.

I was thinking about giving the Noslers a try. The accubonds that I load for my other rifles always seem to give good results (accuracy wise).

Only reason I thought I'd stay away from them is I've had a few people (all long range shooters) tell me that they, and I quote "fly true out to 500 yards then F-off in another direction".

I'll probably end up trying out a few different bullets until I find something that works well for my gun.
