Was all sad of not being able to get my Ruger SR762, so i was out a nice AR-10, so i was lurking tru all the dealers and suddenly found this Armalite AR10T 20 inch barrel Match SS green @ Wolverine ( only one was left in stock), so got in touch with Brent and we stroke a deal for that rifle with cut shipping and one extra mag 20-5 Armalite to be sent upon their shipment arrival, i think i have now my precision restricted, this one gonna be fit with one of my S&B 12X50X56 PMll P4L for real accurate range work restricted style... I am very happy, can wait to ear what Epoxy7 think about my rifle, being the Armalite guru... JP. PS: Generic picture for info only...

That will make a solid precision AR10.

I would however get a Magpul Miad and the AR10 wedge (fills in the gap between the pistol grip and lower receiver (A must for AR10 and most 308AR rifles). Unless you use the non backstrap or stick with the A2 grip. The reason I recomend this grip is mostly because it gets rid of the finger grooves and if you use the largest backstrap it helps ensure the trigger comes straight back. Something that stocks for precision also do but with a pistol grip you need to consider this. Also avoid the PSG1 style grips with the palm shelf. I have one and found it more awkward than helpful. Looks cool but that's it.

One last trick. The Armalite rifles come with adjustable triggers. When you get yours take a look at the trigger from inside the lower receiver (separate upper/lower). You will see a tab portruding towards you with three grooves. If the spring/wire bar is going across the middle bar then your trigger isn't set on the lowest setting and will seem marginal for a match rifle. I actually really like the Armalite trigger design for removal. It's almost tooless. Push down on that portrusion as it's loaded by the spring tension. Then the bar/pin will push out from the right to the left very easily. Otherwise it's held in there and won't tap out. The top trigger bar/pin comes out regularly ie use a punch and tap from right to left.

Free trigger job and makes a huge difference. I had two Armalite rifles that came set at the middle. Fine for a carbine but not good enough for accuracy. I was considering changing the one out. One of them I sent to a gunsmith who polished some stuff up but told me they couldn't get it lighter. Cost me a few bucks but didn't make the trigger good enough. Then one day I cracked open these rifles. After having put together a SASS from a bucket of AR parts ( Thanks fireball for help with the upper) I was aware of the match trigger design and had the instruction booklet for it. So against all that is natural I read through the instructions again. Looked at the triggers and changed both of them. Huge difference. Set the spring bar closest to you. IE away from the receiver on the last grove.

Also for an ammo base line. If it doesn't like 168 federal gold then give 175 a try. If it doesn't like Federal gold then give 167 Lapua a try. The Lapua is almost 200 fps faster. This should help narrow down the accuracy node if you go to reload. There are lots of 155 loads as well.

My Armalites all have 1:11.25 twist rates so I can't give you an almost sure fire starter round. Since the target version has a 1:10 twist. Still the above rounds have worked well for me as a baseline including a DPMS LR308 with 1:10 twist which didn't like the 168 fedral gold but loved the faster Lapua ammo.

One last note. You will see lots of posts regarding mags. A lot of the Armslite reliability issue claims and crap mags were from 2006 and earlier before the gen2 mag was standard. This includes Canadian military use and military trial results. After 2006 the mag was changed. The gen2 mag is very good quality and reliability seems to be excellent.

I'm mixed on the mag issue as the Armalite mags are very good and not hard to get while also at an ok price. However the "standard"are the original AR10 waffle mag system as used by DPMS, KAC etc. The DPMS mags are marginal and the KAC mag is a bit nicer than the Armalite mag but also over $100 per mag. The so called standard mag isn't so universal. My DPMS mags don't fit well in my LMT and they are even exceptionaly tight in my DPMS GII!! The KAC is the only one that fits all those rifles. Pmags, well I'm on the wait list. Wolverine 10 round mags are still in the prototype stage. The "standard" has issues I simply don't have with my three Armalite rifles and their mags.

Thanks Epoxy7, those infos and tips, will come handy when i will be in the middle of things, one factory load that is awsome in many of my 308 is the Lapua HPS Lockbase 170 gr, for the rest, load devellopment will be intense to have this baby give some clover love... JP.

I should also do a shameless plug for Fireball. He has his Armalite SASS up for sale. He's gone super ghey for HK lately. He always had the afliction but lately it seems to be an adiction.

It's a true Armalite SASS build. IE all Armalite parts including the adjustable gas block. However the main part is the barrel. I have the same one on mine which was a royal pain to find in Canada. It's a 20" Armalite Lothar Walther tripple lapped ceramic coated SS barrel. The interesting part is it's 1:11.25 twist. This is the twist they used for military trials not the current 1:10 twist as found on the SASS Armalite rifles sold currently. Anyways if anyone is looking for a more military style AR10 it's worth a look. The trigger is excellent and it only has 5 rounds for test firing. (Mine isn't for sale).

Int the review they get a 10 shots group at 500 yards at around 2 inch so it would be for that group .4 MOA with factory ammo, kind of very excited here... JP.

With the right bullet spun to the right RPM it should perform to the same MOA until it transitions to subsonic at which point it can get bumped around a bit and accuracy decays

Since it is a restricted, i will be very limited by the distance available, at my membership club, 200 yards is the max... Wont be able to try it on our 1000 metres range, but i will try to find a club with 500 yards + between Montreal and Ottawa... JP.

Only one I know of in the area is Connaught (Ottawa) that has up to 1000 yds. Very regimented I hear, tho I have not been there myself.

Its called the transonic barrier, the distance of which is called the Maximum Point Blank Range.

My question was clarifying his statement, not a question about MOA. Please re-read my post if necessary.

A bullet from a 308 20 inch barrel should still be supersonic at 1000 metres... Or barely, with my 20 inch Nemesis, you could see the holes on the target ( picture) beginning to keyhold and getting elongated... JP.

Could not sleep last night and after talking to a friend about my Armatite AR-10T, i set myself up at my reloading station and did prepared, 100 pièces of 308 once fired Lapua cases to specs, for my precision AR-10T, not to often i start reloding procedures without having the rifle in hand... Very excited to get that rifle... JP.
