Well I just received this one today. 1939 Sauer all matching right down to the screws and the front sight blade. Its a well worn, battle used k98k but I really like it. It even came with what looks to be the original sling.

Is that varnish in the bolt handle dish? I'm assuming it was duffle cut then repaired? The misalignment of the front band to the bayou lug makes me believe so.

Nice find.

Yes duffle cut and repaired under the band. My first duffle cut k98k. I really don't care either way if they are or aren't duffle cut as long as it is repaired decently and not visible when together. To me the duffle cut just adds to the character and history.

Not sure what is in the bolt cutout. It is soft and doesn't seem to extend to any other parts of the stock. I suppose I could try some alcohol and see if it comes off but the stock hasn't been sanded or anything and I'll probably just leave it the way it is. The metal needs a cleaning and fresh oil but other than that I don't want to touch or alter too much.

Did the come from the US or Canada? I like duffle cuts. I have a byf44 K98 and a G43 that were brought back like that.

That's definitely a USA import.

I don;t mind the duffle cut guns either, but in the case of yours, it looks like someone added a spacer to the repair to account for the saw blade difference, but that the spacer used was slightly too wide. Someone good with wood could probably improve on it a bit.

Heres a few bad pictures, hopefully you can forgive me, as I'm no photographer.

I purchased mine from a fella, if I remember correctly, from southern Saskatchewan. It is all matching and original, right down to the lock screws.

Tim.
