This is an all matching and correct byf 44 k block with the late Kriegsmodell numbering pattern. The k block is interesting because part way through the block Mauser Oberndorf switched from the early numbering pattern to the late pattern. Generally if the serial is on the receiver on a k block it will have the late numbering although there is at least one know example serialed on the barrel with the late numbering. The only parts that are serialed are the receiver, bolt, bolt sleeve, cocking piece, and firing pin. Stock, bands, sight parts, etc., are all unnumbered as the should be.

The metal has seen better days and was very rusty when I got it. I spent many hours carefully removing most of the scaly rust with out damaging the remaining finish and leaving the patina intact. I think I did a decent job of it but let me know if I didn't.

The stock, unlike the metal, is in fantastic condition. Great white glue laminate with chatter throughout and never sanded or messed with in any way. Nice raw laminate inside and a nice MO 6 ink stamp in the channel. The handguard is red glue and while usually the stock and handguard are made of the same laminate it isn't that uncommon to have a mixture.

Great job! That came up pretty nice. Did the bore improve much?
To be honest I haven't done much to the bore other than run a few oily patches down it until they came out some what clean. It's still pretty dark but I have no intention of ever shooting it and it doesn't really concern me too much. I may eventually run a few bronze brush strokes through it but it's preserved in oil for now.

Looks like I'm going to have to eat my words, this turned out remarkably well. You must have spent hours upon hours cleaning this gal!

Is it still going to be your "all matching shooter" or have you decided to treat it like the other babies?

Beautiful rifle! Nice job.

I hope you clean out the bore and shoot it. Might be worth your while.

Gunslick foaming bore cleaner works wonders! Just saying...

I use it on every 'new' rifle I get and it really simplifies the whole cleaning process. It dissolves cosmo, rust, copper, and fouling all in one or two applications.

Well, it is an all matching and correct example so I won't be shooting it. It just gets to sit and look pretty and have a well deserved rest in my custody. I have others to shoot and really if you've shot one k98k, you've shot them all. I'm pretty familiar with the operation and how they feel in action.

I will eventually get around to cleaning up the bore but I doubt it's going to be very nice. I think it would be decent but there will be some pitting.
