My newest acquisition. Just arrived. It completes my "one of every year of byf" collection. I didn't have time to take some good pics of some areas or strip it down to do internal parts pics but I'll update the thread if any one is interested when I have the time. These are the quick pics I did tonight.

Well Jeremy you've done it again, that's an absolutely beautiful example! I can't believe your gf lets you buy so many of these though. What about food on the table? I think most collectors would agree that this rifle is too nice to shoot so you can't even kill dinner. Have fun eating KD for the next few months my friend!

I'd eat KD for a year to fund another matching original.:p

Money in the bank. When your family is sick of KD, send me the gun, ill send out something better to eat!

Nice rifle. Walnut is great for crispy edges. Speed milled, and walnut. Good combo.

Hi Jeremy,

Congrats on the new one. You K98k guys are out of control, but it's a good thing!

I kind of consider you guys importing these wonderful rifles as turning the tides against all the greedy sellers who exported nice stuff to the U.S. over the years to make a buck. Keep evening out the playing field, we need more guys like you, Andrew, and Chris bringing top condition collectible firearms back to Canada. :canadaFlag:

I hope we can keep getting good stuff like this out of USA.

That's tight!!!! The stock is way nicer than I expected, I expect to see wood that nice on a port, not a Wehrmacht issue rifle. Once again, well done.

Well thanks for giving me the heads up on this one. I may have missed out on it other wise.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! A lot of time, effort, and of course money goes into my collection so I appreciate the comments.

Nice K98!

Is it just me or does the bolt handle serial and the serial on the bolt housing (same pic) look ground down? The finish doesnt even extend to that area and seems to have been purposely removed. Doesn't seem right to me. Ive had a post war renumber job look very similar to those grinding marks. Odd since the rest of the rifle looks legit.

Well here are a couple close up pics of the serials you don't like. There is no finish loss in either area and they have definitely not been ground down and renumbered. When looking for faked numbers on bolt roots you have to inspect the trough between the bolt body and root for signs of it being more shallow than it should be. Also number and letter font is very important. Compare the font of the numbers to other known good examples of byf 43's and you'll see it is 100% legit. The letter blocks are usually harder to fake than the numbers and this is sometimes what really stands out on a faked or reworked rifle. Often fakers leave the letter off altogether or the font is badly off. Again, compare the "f" to other byf "f" blocks.

This rifle came from one of the biggest Mauser Oberndorf collectors in the US and a highly respected member of the k98k collecting community. Trust me. It's about as legit as you can get.
