Here's a recent addition to my Mauser Oberndorf collection. I actually got this the same day CanadianAR got his bnz45 but I didn't want to post it up at the same time and steal his thunder.:p

Actually it's a pretty standard and ordinary MO K98k. The only odd things with it are the front band and the Elite Diamant sight slider. The front band is one of the hardest band configurations to find and is sort of a hybrid between the regular speed milled and stamped bands. You can see it is speed milled but formed and welded at the seam like a stamped band. MO was the pioneer for most time/cost saving operations and as far as I know the only maker to use this type of band. It generally shows up in a narrow time frame and isn't seen often.

Some other details include:
White glue stock, red glue handguard, FN bolt, 100% matching, unmarked buttplate, and a plum colored bolt shroud which doesn't show its color very well in the pics.

sigh....I have a sort of nice K98, but it has some un-fixable issues, namely wrong stock and the rear sight base had the handguard bracket ground off (Bishop rifle)....but otherwise a nice matching '43 BYF

I dont quite understand the white.......hahahahaha Pics are good.

Mauser is funny eh, alot of firms had fully switched to stamped bands by 43 and this 44 has full milled rear, and that half milled front.

My byf43 has stamped front and milled rear, dou43 is stamped front and rear. 44s I have are stamped, well except the other mauser oberndorf stamped H invention.

It's also interesting that your hard to find MO stamped H band doesn't show up on any MO K98k's. They seemed to have shipped them all to other makers.

vermintrex, your sight base can be replaced. They are just soldered on and shouldn't be too hard for a competent smith to replace.

Yeah, maybe they didnt like how the stamped and welded h bands turned out? So they shipped them to the czechs, or Mauser wanted to stay with the updated design? Who knows.

The stamped H band is a solid piece though. Works quite well.

that's my problem.....I need a smith, and I don't know any....guess I'm too new to this.

That's fine, and I agree, but why bother to ship them? Lol we will never know, but without all these neat band variations they wouldn't be as neat.
 
WaA135 on the right butt stock, WaA135's on the keel and wrist. Typical of laminate stocks though they don't show up very well. The ones on the keel and wrist are just just vague imprints. Some laminates are stamped better and seem to hold the stamps well but this one shows a fair bit of carry wear and typical of MO they weren't stamped very deep from the factory most likely.

No external serials as this was dropped by most manufactures in 42.

Agreed. Odd how fifty years ago, these rifles were quite common and regularly abused. But seventy-odd years after production demand does not equal supply, and their value has risen inestimably.
