# Matching Frankenpin or Not?

I have a nonrefurb laminate stock(original from the factory)sks with a # matching mag that was frankinpinned. Considering desirability/$ value, is it better to leave it alone or replace the mag. with a non-matching mag that has the internal limiter in it(which looks much nicer)?

If you buy a non-matching mag, and install it without fking up the gun, and keep the older matching one, it's a win-win-win for you.

So yes, buy a mag. (dont scrap the gun or the matching mag)

My SKS has the same thing.. I wonder if reversing the frankenpin to a cleaner look would yield good results

Yep, keep that mag, you can replace it if you want to go shooting and dont like the look/ save wear and tear on the original, but keeeep that mag!

Can you not just grind out the frankinpinned weld to make it flush with the magazine? It could look better than any other option if someone took the time without compromising the internal pin?

The paint they cover it with usually just peels off. I've used a small block of hardwood with some emery cloth over it to sand the weld flush then blue it with cold blue.

I'd rather have matching franken-pinned than non matching "clean" - problem with removing parts is you will loose them at some point...guy named Murphy wrote a law about that

Yep, kinda like BBQ paint, I have only seen about 3 that look painted, the rest have different types of professional finishes applied!

How so? No one can see a pin attached to the follower inside the mag...everyone can see an external weld.
