Matching numbers rant

I know, I know we are all bored, but EE rants are for Mondays only, so be patient it's only three more sleeps.

How would you describe a rifle that has "all matching numbers except one part"? What's wrong with "all except smth" semantics? As a "mismatched"? How would you differentiate from a rifle with ALL numbers mismatched?
At least information is present and correct unlike with "factory vs refurb matching" topic.

The Classic:

All matching numbers “SAVE” the bolt which matches itself.

The word “Save” is sometimes seen in an advertisement or the word “Except” which means the same thing: Save = Except.
But sounds more like an Auction House pimping for Extra Dollars.

"SAVE" and "Except", the words of the Day brought to you by Sesame Street!

I call it mismatched. I do see your point though.

"Forced matched" irks me. How about "renumbered"?
So does "in good condition for its age".
"All matching except for the bolt which matches itself". Why not just say that the bolt is a replacement from another rifle?

I was trying to sell a $300 PolishTokarev that had been purchased from a dealer who had them as unissued surplus.

Some OCD guy wanted me to detail strip it and scan every single part for him to confirm it was matching numbers. After I went to all that effort he took issue with one small internal part of the trigger mechanism that had no number. Claimed his Russian Tokarev had a number on that part and declined the purchase.

I decided that trying to sell that pistol was more effort than it was worth since it doesn't take up that much space in the safe anyways.

It's part of the reason I don't own much in the way of milsurp firearms, most are a 'pig in a poke' and have been messed with...

Not to mention the prices!

These are all descriptions. I don't think they are meant to mislead. But some collectors do have an inflated view of the value of their items. For example, when someone sees nothing but rebuilt mismatched k98 on the market and one days comes across one that is almost all matching except for a single part, it is indeed a rarer find and he will probably be very excited about it. But collector-wise and value-wise its not worth more at all.

Want to look at creative descriptions? Real estate market. "tastefully decorated", 'spacious", "a steal"... lol.
