matchlock arquebus

I got a chance today to fire it. I shot it three times. the first was just to try it out but the next two I aimed it and got a hit with the second shot. I will post a pic of the target and a video when I get a chance. every thing went well. my dads pool cover tie up rope worked perfect. my fingers are a bit burnt from handling the match cord.

thanks guys. I was just trying it out. next time I use it I will get better footage. I am hoping that my club lets me to outside of the enclosure . I am going to ask permission.
it is a really fun gun! I was shooting .71 balls at 70-80Grs. I think next time if I can get on the 100 yard range I would maybe up it a little but 80 shot real nice.

I understand those Arquebuses where usually shot in volleys by lined troops from standing position but supported by forks.

They are shown often in movies about XVII century European Wars.

Swedes used them often in Poland and Russia invasions.

I did cast .75Cal balls for someone a while back-that's a one big ball.I would want to get hit by one at any speed or distance.

that's how they were used at first because of the weight of the gun almost 20 pounds on some they needed a rest for it but by the English war they started to use this lighter pattern that didn't need a rest. this type of gun would have been around 9 pounds and more like the gun I have.
formations and use would have been the same till I think about 1678? even the cavalry would be used to shoot volleys with there pistols.

not really a question about getting hit with a .75 ball. it would probably completely shatter bone on contact after leaving a hole the size of a beer bottle cap. if it didn't blow right through the poor guy . pretty messy warfare back in the day!
