Matrix Ballistics

Did you ever get a chance to use these bullets on game Ted?

One big mountain caribou bull last year. They are the size of mature elk, and it was DRT when I finally hit him. That was using the 9.3 bullet in the rifle that the scope packed up on.

Should have a report on the 7mm this season, as my wife is using it in her 7mm-08 Marlin.

I have heard a great many stories of Matrix bullets on paper but I want to hear first hand accounts of how the stand up on game...

Do a search on "Long Range Hunting" and you'll get a couple of messages about .277 165gr Hunting VLD in 270 WSM. (the only one that I remember is black bear at killed 843 yards range)

Shot a Young WT buck this week with Matrix's 130gr. 6.5 FB . MV was about 3050 fps. Nice size exit hole...heart and lungs are mush..animal recovered 20-30 yards away. I think the range was about 75 yards, I would say they worked very well.

Looking forward to using them again and most likely in other cartridges too.

What? No 150 or 160 in .284? :(

If I decide to load some heavier rounds I'll definitely consider these....and just down the road for me as well.

I might have to order up some 130gr .277's and give them a go though. The price is right!

Believe me, I'm definitely not ragging on Matrix. To the contrary, I'm completely supportive of top-shelf Canadian bullet companies. I just didn't want guys to be looking at the BC numbers on the website and getting stars in their eyes, only to realize later than they are not comparing apples to apples...

Quit crushin our dreams Jordan.

BTW- Im joining the 7mm short and fat club

I emailed them asking about the .277 165 vld I wanted to use in my 10 twist 270wsm. It won't stabilize in Manitoba hunting weather which is cold. :(

Really? I emailed them about the EXACT same thing for my Model 700 XCR...they told me 165's was no problem in the 10 twist WSM

VERY impressive BC on the 7mm-190VLD.

I've been kinda-sorta playing with the idea of building along range target gun, probably in 7mm of some sort. Could be interesting

Here is the email I sent and the answer I received.

Hi ######X,
That's a very good question, I cannot scientifically answer it though.

I have a question regarding the .277 165gr VLD hunting bullet. I have a 270 wsm with a 10 twist barrel (Sako). I am from Manitoba and the areas I hunt are between 800 and 1200 ft elevation. It does get cold here so hunting in -20C or colder does happen. Will this bullet stabilize in my rifle?

Thank you
