I am following an online auction for this item. Anybody have more info on it? It is listed as antique .303 rifle....We all know it's not, but caliber? Not original wood I assume.
Looks like a mauser 1871 cavalry carbine , "sporterised", 11 mm ,(.43) mauser . $250 or a bit more, around here, if the bore is good enough to shoot well.
Agreed. Not an easy rifle to find ammo for but they are a pretty neat design. I have a full wood infantry rifle and it's actually one of my favourites.
