I'm looking for the value of a 71/84 blackpowder mauser that appears to be matching serial #s but in fair condition. Also the value of a m96-38 swedish mauser in good condition with matching serial #s.

Thanks

The M96/38 (actually not a correct designation, they were just considered M38 along with the new built Husqvarnas) is the least valuable, because they have already been bubba'd (in the arsenals) by having the barrel cut and stock shortened, and more likely to be mis-matched.

They most definitely are not "bubba'd". Arsenal work is arsenal work, you don't call 71/84 Mausers bubba'd Infanterie-Gewehr 71s or Snider–Enfields "bubba'd" Pattern 1853s now do you. Jimmy from Chilliwack deciding he needs to hacksaw his Ross rifle down a bit and add a white line spacer and some varnish is what one could call "bubba'd".

Jimmy gets around, but he didn't have any part in converting M96s to M38s.

The M96/38 will be more valuable if it still has its Vasteras rear sight insert and yellow offset table on the stock. This calibrated the rear sights to the new, shorter, barrel length. As long as it hasn't been poached by a previous owner I'd say $450-500.
If cleaning rod or front sight hood are missing value also drops.

Really need pics....

Thanks for the feedback guys I should have grabbed some pics I'll have to wait until i'm back in the area to take another look. The m96/38 had matching serial #s and cleaning rod I don't beleive they have a front site hood? The 71/84 bolt matched the receiver but I didn't look close enough after reading about them it sounds like every component is serialized on them.
