How does one go about smoothing a 98 action on a rebuild. Its stiff when cocking and sticks when pulled back and forth. It works OK but is there a trick to this?? Valve grinding cpd(fine?) or just work it back and forth til it smooths out?? Any help appreciated.. I
've polished the bolt/follower/rails/ to no avail. JITC:confused:

Normally, there is a substantial clearance in Mauser actions - best to try to ascertain what is binding... I just went through this - thought the sear was binding. Turned out to be the cocking piece dragging on the stock. Have also had rear scope base screws causing drag.

There's allot to look at, but here's a few.

Check for burrs on the bolt and inside the action where the bolt make contact.

Feel the inside of the action where the locking lugs rotate, Burrs??

Is the Extractor too big? or the extractor collar too big?

Do the serial numbers match?

Is the bolt / action clean of dried grease?

Is the inside of the bolt free of grease?

Does the bolt have a guide rail on the top of the bolt when open?

Pictures would help.
