Not normal. I've never seen that on any of the numerous M98's I own or have owned. Not sure what's going on there. I'm assuming it's on a m/m k98k of some sort? Maybe try another bolt stop/ejector assy?
It's possible the ejector spring is broken inside the bolt stop. I'd remove it from the rifle, clean any grease or debris out of it, and inspect. Likely it's just a broken spring or heavily fouled mechanism.
Broken spring makes the most sense. It will close fully when you pull the bolt back because the bolt would pull on the stop causing it to pivot on the screw. Normally spring tension would hold it against the receiver.
This is true. I stand corrected, I didn't even notice that the bolt was all the way in, was waiting in traffic while I made that post. I just got a quick glimpse hehe
took it off cleaned it and every thing still the same. I checked the bolt stop on another gun and it is way tight. this messed up one has almost no tension on it. the spring is for sure no good. I will just buy a replacement.
