It totally replaces the bolt shroud. It is a wing type, similar to a model 70, but only 2-position, so you have to take it off safe to open the bolt.

I put a Timney Buehler low swing on my FN98....works great....I know you wanted Canadian, but I got mine from Brownels and cheaper than replacing the entire shroud

I have been looking for a three position M98 safety that operates like the Win mod 70 safety for a while now, and had an ad on the EE but no luck. I will order a Dakota or maybe a Gentry from Brownell's.

Do a Google search for "Dayton Traister Mark II Safety". You might need a qualified Smith to install it properly, but they are excellent and cheap -- not often that I put those two words together!

I just called NECG and placed an order. quick and painless, except for the $40 shipping cost, which seems pretty much unavoidable anyway. No export/import permits required for the safety that I bought.
