mauser 98 sniper extended safety

Anyone out there familiar with this safety? It was designed to be used with low mounted scopes on the K98 sniper rifles. Can it be used on a 1908/1909 models?? It looks quite neat but I have no pics. Does it need "gunsmith"installation?? thanks JITC

mauser 98k sniper extended safety----I have two israeli 98k 308 sniper rifles with extended safetys. gunparts corp has copies for sale. They look like the ones on my guns. I don't think you need a gunsmith to install, if you know how to take a bolt apart----but you should use one to be sure it is assembled correctly.

There are a number out there. Some need machining, some are nothing more than changing the bolt shroud.

Which one are you refering to?

Are these the type of safeties you mean?

They are right-hand conversions available from Brownells and shipable to Canada. Prices are US$23.95 and US$36.95 respectively.

The top one requires a bit of a modification to the shroud. Both may require a bit of work on the cocking piece.
