Mauser 98 trigger?

Ok, today i went out a tried one of my mausers. When i go to pull the trigger its a long smooth pull and then "bang". Then i put another round and but my safty on before i shot it. I took the safty off and went to fire. This time it was a 2 stage trigger pull.

it only becomes 2 stage when i put it on safty???

Thats not right?

I know with my other mausers all of them are a 2 stage trigger pull.

What do you think the problem is?:confused:
 
I think I had a similar issue with one of my Gewehr 98s as well as a Kar 98a. I found that when the safety was applied to the left (ON position), it would lift the cocking piece up slightly and loose partial contact with the trigger sear. The trigger would be able to move freely and was essentially a loose single stage. I was able to temporarily fix the issue by moving the safety back to the right (OFF position) and lifting it slightly as if I was going to move it back. The trigger sear would re-engage and it would be fine.

It got to the point of annoyance as it would do it every time the safety was used so I swapped out the cocking piece with one that had more sear contact and the problem has not returned since for either rifle.
 
Mine is a bit diffrent. When you go to operate it, its 1 single stage, ONLY when i put the safety on and take it off it becomes 2 stage?


I just tried testing other mauser 98 bolts in that gun and dry fired and it still does it, 1 large pull, then when saftey gets put on and tooken off it becomes 2 stage.
