Here are some photos for those interested. It looks like it has a few stories to tell.

92 40540 2690F Mauser 98K bcd 8mm Mauser Nazi Matching bolt, excellent $---

It has a nice shiny bore with strong rifling.

As you can see the eagles have been peened, that was a surprise.

Does this indicate it was a Russian capture?

*Any comments or insights are appreciated. I'm here to learn.

TIA.

Definately reworked. Bolt was ground and renumbered. Could even be East German rework (###X marks and peening) and postwar front sight hood. Maybe Czech with the late bands. Some of the Romanian imports from the 90's were peened like that too.

The ground and renumbered bolt is confusing to me.

What was the point of grinding and renumbering a bolt to match the receiver when it is so obviously not the original bolt? Would this be something done at the (Czech?) arsenal level post war?

Nice piece of history! Thanks for showing!! I love those k98 rifles, in any configuration!

Parts included a lot of manufacturing seconds, rejects and leftovers. Once a bolt was matched to a receiver it was re-numbered.

*edit* not that there`s anything wrong with that. The Czechs were pretty good at putting these bitsers together and yours likely won`t dissapoint on the range.

Hey guys,

Popped the stock off this morning - here are a few more photos to analyze. As you can see the stamped number in the stock matches the receiver, and the bayonet nut looks original to the stock.
