Don't know if this is the right forum or not, if not feel free to move it. I was wondering what is the ballpark price range for a mauser broomhandle pistol. I haven't seen it, don't even know if it is 30 Luger or 9mm calibre. Just would like to know what they are selling for in Canada in reasonable condition (and yes, I know that's pretty vague) I just would like to know a wide range of selling prices depending on condition. Thanks for any input.

Is she the prohibited Schnellfeuer variant or Bolo model ? Pre-war, wartime commercial model ? Do the grips have a big red "9" engraved into them ? How is the bluing and bore condition ? Numbers matching ? Extractor intact ? Missing ? Damaged ? Stock holster present ?

I have seen the pre-war commercials in fair condition go for as low as $500 up to over $3000 for the matching numbers Red 9 with matched stock holster so there are plenty of variables affecting the price I'm afraid.

Do you have any pictures of your broomhandle ?

I may have a chance to get one, a friend of a friend kind of deal, haven't even seen it yet. Just wondering what kind of money it would be wise to throw at the guy. I don't have any experience with the 96 at all except for an appreciation of it's design and quality. There is only one screw in the whole gun and that holds the grip panels on. I will post more info as I get it or the deal may fall through. Thanks.

Just be careful if you intend to shoot it, the calibre is 30 Mauser (7.63X25) on the originals, not 30 Luger (7.65X21 Parabellum) and definitely don't use the similarly dimensioned to the 30 Mauser, but much more powerful 7.62X25 Tokarev.

Also, carefully check the barrel for bulges. The 7.63 (30 cal) Mauser will chamber and fire 9mm and it will go down the barrel but usually leaving a bulge or two. I have seen a couple where the owner fired nothing but 9mm and wondered why he finally blew the extractor off and broke the front of the breech block. Nice pistol up to that point!!!!

There were a pile of them brought in by Century that were in POOR shape many years ago, they sold for about $200-ish back in the day. The rifling was non-existant on mine, and it tumbled bullets at 10 meters.

They can range in price depending on condition, and accessories, and the true antique ones command a genuine premium.

Anywhere from $400-3000+....

Thanks for the tip about the 30 mauser calibre. I already read a few blurbs online about people putting Tokarev rounds through the Mauser with unhappy consequences.

S+B makes 7.63 Mauser non corrosive ammo. I picked up two boxes for about $1.10 a shot but saved all the brass for future reloading. My C96 loves the S+B stuff and it fed very well.

I would agree with the other members.
Original 7,65x25 rounds would have worked in the day, but Tokarev ammo is too hot
Price quotes are bang on $400-3000 for most common models.
Non-Matching and poor bore on the bottom side and all matching and maybe a shoulder stock matched to the gun on the higher side.
There are many vairants which could bring the price higher, but most will sell in the range provided above.

And double the high figure for an antique cone hammer version made in 1896-97 in pristine condition:popCorn:
