This is sporadic at the very best. I've asked multiple techs directly and get the same reply of "we need to see detailed digital pictures of the Broomhandle, proofmarks, and all of the serialized parts".
Needless to say they don't just go off of serial # alone unfortunately.
In my research I do have to agree with the techs somewhat, you can't just date a Broomhandle off of serial #. I've seen some really wierd things come out of Mauser, like a step barreled Broomhandle (two digit serial number) that had a later date hammer that matched the serial #, Waffenfabric markings on the right side of the frame, and serial numbering on the flat of the barrel like later production Broomhandles. Needless to say that this example was old parts that must have been found in the factory and assembled at a much later date.
Now if you can find one of the Turkish production that's the only Broomhandle that an antique FRT exists for. It's labeled in Farsi and very easily identifiable. Scoop one of those up on the spot if you can ever find one.
Clear as mud?
Hope that helped. Feel free to post here or PM to discuss further if you'd like.
