Hey folks, here is the situation.

A buddy of mine gave me an old mauser foremost 6500 30/06.

The rifle needs some tlc + new barrel. So, im going to do another build. The problem is, i already built a .308, .223, and .300wm. This will be the first on a mauser.

My deal is I cannot decide on the caliber. It dost not have a magnum bolt face. So will have to stick with the 25-06, .338-06, or the 35Whelen. I decided i dont want another 30-06.

What do you guys think? I really dont need another rifle and am putting it together pretty much as a hobby.

Let me know what you guys think.

Id go with the 35 whelen, I really like mine. You can also do reduced loads with 357 pistol bullets which is fun to play around with.

It's a Mauser! Something metric. With some class. 6.5x55, 7x57, 7x64, 8x57, 9.2x62. You get the idea.

Given your other rifles chamberings, you could benefit most from .35 Whelen or 9.3x62. Either will fill a gap in your lineup.
I have used .35 Whelens for years for most of my elk and moose hunting, they work perfectly for me. But if I was doing it over again, I now would choose the 9.3, just because it is on the rise in local popularity in North America and it is already a classic chambering for mausers and is well recognized and popular in Europe and Africa.
But either is a very good choice. Go with the one you like.
