mauser build

Gunslinger, I really like the 45LC and these 325gr Hard cast slugs. Making it feed a rimless (?) cartridge would be interesting. Plus, the action is too springy.

I was getting some nice bulges when working up the 45LC. I could have reached 1650fps+ but the brass/action was not liking it. Backing down to 1550fps (same as a 454 Casull) and all is well.

Considering there have been braves souls who have taken Cape B's with the Casull in HG's, I think that it would put a hurt on most NA game.

Is this is real big stopper, of course not but this trapper my wife can use and I just never know who might need to save whom.

I don't think the .338 and the .458 are comparable. They are in completely different categories. For "bear defence/work" the .458 is better. for an all-around North American cartridge the .338 is better. I've seen a .458 with a 19" barrel that worked well, and I am fairly certain made 19.5" barreled .338 carbines.

I used a 18-1/2" Sako AV in 338 when I first worked in the bush, and pretty quickly went to a 4" 629.

How are you able to carry a handgun in the bush in Canada? epecially since 4" is prohib instead of restricted? Not doubting you but wondering because id love to carry my dads old model 29...ill definatly look into the ruger as well, because I can surely see the cost of building a nice rifle being pretty hefty. Maybe Ill buy somthing production now, and wait untill I have the time and money to build a nice custom.
