Mauser C.96 Pistol antique

I was thinking of getting a Mauser C.96 that i saw in the states. it's made before 1898 and it uses the 7.63x25mm cartridge. is this a legal canadian antique or have i missed something?

Make Certin its Made before 1898!!!! check the ser # must show it is Made in 1897 or sooner.

Theres a few Advertised that are right on the line so to speak. I think the Ser # must be less than 10,000 but thats a guess.

There several sites that Date the C 96 by SER # just google them before ya get into a deal then find out its really NOT pre 1898.

If you have one of these firearms you should be using the .30 Luger ammo in it.
Much of the 7.63x25 surplus ammo on the market today is loaded for the Tokarev TT-30 pistols and sub machine guns in that caliber. And it is loaded to much higher pressures than the Mauser C.96 can digest. That would be a nasty and expensive surprise.

For further reading on the .30 Luger and the 7.63x25 get a copy of the Oct 2006 (# 243) Handloader magazine from Wolfe Publishing and a copy of Barnes "Cartridges of the World".

Ususally I would agree..the antique ones are worth a mint.

...however I did some searching myself (I always keep an eye open for one) and found one just the other day... pre-1898 listed at $3100

DAMN! I'd have to sell a lot in a hurry to buy that one but it would be very nice to get ahold of one...some day.
 
Personally id rather have a Webley MKII or a good SA S&W or Remington or SAA Colt Revolver than one of them Clunky things.

Id be test shooting a Modern one frist before i spent over $3000 on a Antique C 96

If ya just want it to Fondle and look at fine but the things are like fricken rat traps Shick Clack Clunk Clunk Bang.....

As far as a Shooter goes a Browning hi power they are not! ;)

LOL was he ever in a Mud trench covered in mud and his Mauser to?
Id think a Revolver woulda been a better Choice in them WWI Trench Fightin Days.

Mind you if your Rideing a horse or rideing in a tank waveing a pistol around im sure either would be OK.



I do think there intresting Firearms just i like a Revolver better even than a modern Semi auto pistol.

I would not go that far; the one that I have is awkward to load and a bit hard to pull the slide back on but once cocked it is also extremely accurate and I am not concious of the slide moving back and forth.
The biggest drawback with mine is that it is not pre 1898. I also don't particularly understand why they did not use a removeable magazine until just about the end of production.
