Mauser Extractor

Just picked up a Swedish Mauser....
Cleaned the barrel...made up a dummy round...and found that it would not extract the round reliably...
Is it possible to 'tune' the extractor...increase the tension, etc.
Or is it just the 'gotta change out the extractor'?
Any help would be appreciated.
 
Likely be easier to change the extractor. Surplus Rifles has a Mauser bolt disassembly how-to.
The trick will knowing which one you need. Gunparts lists extractors for M38, 94 and 96 Swedish Mausers at $14.95US each. A K98 Mauser extractor runs $27US. Marstar wants $29Cdn for a K98 extractor.
Give the bolt a good cleaning first though.

You beat me to it...I have a Ruger 77 (Mauser action) that will extract but not eject if it doesn't feed from below. If I close the bolt on a round laying on the mag follower it will not eject but if I place the round into the mag it extracts & ejects flawlessly.

I almost made a warranty claim until I figured that out.
 
I checked and it's the M38...shorter than the K98, with a 'bent' bolt handle.
The rounds were fed from the magazine, so I don't think that's the problem.
I don't suppose there is a Canadian source for parts?

How is the fit of the brass on the bolt, outside the action? No filth under the extractor? The bolt face has not been tampered with? (opened up for a larger case)
Possibility that it was sprung, trying to force it over a rim of a chambered round? Maybe possible to spring it back with some careful tweaking, but better to have a spare on hand if it goes poorly.

Just some ideas...
Guys have been butchering and carving up Mauser extractors since pretty much as soon as they became available.

Thanks for the suggestions....
I watched the video on the Surplus Rifles web site, so I'll take the bolt apart, clean it up well...maybe 'tweak' the extractor...
I have actually just finished ordering a spare extractor, firing pin, and spring from Numrich....
I was going to take the 38 out to the range tomorrow.
As it's cold, I would assume using oil, instead of grease, would be the way to go after I have 'serviced' the bolt?
 
What brass are you using?

North American brass has a smaller rim diameter than Scandinavian brass. My Husqvarna 1640 won't reliably cycle remington 6.5 x 55, but has no problem with Lapua.;)
