Hi folks,

I recently did a small check on my mausers, and I seem to have an issue with one. Before all, I am talking about a non-matching large-ring mauser ("A").

The problem is that the spent cartridge fails to eject. It would seem that the bolt can not be fully retracted, it blocks about at 3/4" from the bolt face. Playing with the bolt stop seem to let the bolt fully retract. Tracking the problem a bit further seem to indicate that the ejector fail to insert itself in the bolt head channel, worse, it seem to catch a small notch at the entry of the channel. Now, I have another mauser ("B") which is working fine with a couple different bolt. Here is a couple trial/error:

"A" ejector assembly in "A": fail
"B" ejector assembly in "B": ok
"B" ejector assembly in "A": ok
"A" ejector in "B" ejector box (including "B" ejector spring) in "A": fail
"A" ejector in "B" ejector box (including "B" ejector spring) in "B": fail
"B" ejector in "A" ejector box (including "A" ejector spring) in "B": ok

For reference, I consider that area of the rifle to be made of the ejector (the part sliding in the bolt channel to contact and eject the brass), the ejector spring, all housed in the ejector box which is attached to the receiver with a pointy screw.

I was to blame "A" ejector spring, which seems rather weak, but the last test would point out the guilt to "A" ejector. When I compare "A" and "B" ejector, it would seem that "A" is slightly more pointy, with wear at the top of the tip, whereas "B" ejector is more round, with a more lengthy wear.

Before I start to remove material of "A" ejector, I'd rather gather some point of view to see if I could try to gather more clue.

Thanks...

ps: yes, I know, this thread would be better with actual picture :) I'll try to see what I can do.

The idea is to grind ejector "A" to match the shape of ejector "B", especially the rightmost portion.

Ok, I quickly checked on a spanish mauser (Fabrica de armas de Oviedo, 1924; a small ring, IIRC) and the ejector shape indeed match the one in "A".

Thanks to both of you.
