Good day all,

Searched around and didnt find a post on the types of Mauser bolts, so I am just curious what peoples opinions are in regards to which style of bolt is better and any experiences you may have had with the different bolt styles (or if you can link me to a post that already talks about this.)

Thank you.

Its basically personal preference. I like bent for looks by far, but at the range I like shooting a straight bolt just as much as a bent bolt.

The straight bolts are easier to aquire in almost all positions.

The bent bolts are much handier and quicker to use, IMHO, in the prone position.

It all depends on the build of the individual and how ergonomical the design is to their particular body style.

In the prone position, for me, it's almost impossible for me to hold the rifle in an upright position, against my shoulder and work the straight bolt handle. This means I have reaquire the shoulder position most suitable for me, and the sight picture takes more time to aquire as well.

Usually not a big deal, unless you are shooting in timed matches. It could also be a problem in more stressful situations.

From what I gather, the straight bolts were mostly designed for the style of fighting encountered before WWI. Trenches, kneeling and standing positions.
