I placed a custom order (mid Feb-2017) with Al Flaherty's to procure a Mauser M12 Max (through the Canadian distributors for Mauser - MD Charlton Co Inc.) from Germany in 0.308 caliber.

https://www.mauser.com/en/products/m12/m12max/

It seems, Mauser is slow with filling custom orders and it will take 8-10 months for it to arrive in my hands.

As far as I understand, no shop in Canada has this in stock currently. Anyone else in the same boat? Anyone in canada using them currently?

Why Mauser? I had an opportunity to accompany some friends on a hunt in Norway and fell in love with this rifle...

I added a few options:

Hexalock Mount
Threaded Barrel
Bipod Adapter
Extra Magazine

Also, I placed an order with Precision Optics for some Swarovski Glass. Details posted here:

I am going to live on air and water for the rest of 2017...LOLZ

I got mine in a trade from a CGN member in the Yukon about 2 years ago. It's a very well balanced rifle, it handles beautifully, the trigger is excellent, it has great iron sights, and it's accurate too.

Is it an all wood stock or there is a steel inside it? The ... how would you call it... bridge to the rear stock over the thumb hole look very delicate.

Good point. It is laminated wood; but I am not sure re: steel reinforcement. Let me do some more research on that...

Bad news Friends...

I received this via email last week from Al Flaherty's

I've heard back from MD Charlton about the situation about Mauser products. I won't sugar coat it but it's not looking good. Mauser is changing its distribution for North America. Mauser will not be sending any more shipments to Canada, they will only be importing the guns and accessories into the US and Canada will have to buy it from them. This unfortunately is going to increase the cost of the final product, due to the extra steps in shipping and brokerage duty etc.

I don't know what the increase will be at this time and I also do not know how long it will take for all the importation documents to be handled for this change over in distribution. We just received this information this morning and wanted to update you on the situation right away. We should have a better Idea of the implementation of these changes by the end of the year.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Looks like I will have to wait if I decide to stick with Mauser or look for other options...:-(...

I won't be counting on Mauser products any time soon anyway.

The company is a trouble, they changed CEO recently. M03 line was to be discontinued for some time, but M12 was not selling good so they kept it with way few options available. You can see their website under construction since middle of the summer and it seems the company has no real product line to lean on.

On the bright side they are not a single company, they belong to the same bigger company together with Sauer and Blaser, so as a brand they don't have to succeed alone, but I won't expect a huge deal of stuff from them in near future.

Yeah, seems like it. I have been following their website and it has been under construction forever. However their instagram account is quite active. But you are right, big difference between delivering a social media photo and an actual product.

I might switch to a Sauer 101 GTI. Al Flaherty is willing to refund my deposit, which is good...

That M12 Max looked amazing but...

There was quite a bit of talk about Mauser situation on blaserbuds. I dont think the company will vanish, not at all, but I think they are set to major product overhaul and it will take time.

It's too bad you're having trouble getting an M12 Max. I've seen a few M12 standard models for sale used..if you like the Max stock you could get a GRS stock for it, the ergonomics should be similar.

I have an M12 standard model in 30-06 and love it. The rifle balances and handles beautifully. I really like the rifle, and it's very accurate. Mine just put some venison sausages in the freezer.

The only thing I'd change on mine is the length of pull. 14.25 inches is okay in a T-shirt but not in a parka. I need to find someone who I trust to do a nice job of shortening the stock.

Glad to hear that @CanadaBoy. Actually GoTenda in Toronto has a brand new M12 in 30.06 but I just want the Max. Based on my experience using the Max in Norway I was very comfortable with the 14.25" LoP...

Anyhoo, on anther note, I spoke to Peter Lanza from MD Charlton today, who assured me that my rifle will be delivered in the next shipment due last week of Nov or first week of Dec and that I would be mad to cancel my order right now. He mentioned that only Blasers are affected not Mauser. At this point I don't know who to believe. I will wait till Jan 2018 before canceling my order with Al Flaherty.

@Owlowl, could you be very kind and point me (link) to the "mauser situation" forum that you refer to on blaserbuds? As I posted above, I spoke to Peter Lanza from MD Charlton today, who assured me that my rifle will be delivered in the next shipment due last week of Nov or first week of Dec and that I would be mad to cancel my order right now.

Perhaps someone on that forum can help me further...
Many thanks in advance...

Well, I don't claim that Mauser reports to me, so obviously I have no idea. If you can order one and it comes - awesome. It seems to me to be much safer to get whatever is currently in stock in the country already.
