I have a hunt coming up this fall in England where I will be renting a Blaser R8 and I'm hoping to book some other hunts in the future that will most likely be R8 rentals as well. I thought about buying a Blaser to practice with but the price is pretty high so when this Mauser came up for sale I grabbed it. While significantly different than the Blaser the basic mechanics are similar enough that it will suffice.
I actually bought it as a Mauser Lightning in a synthetic stock with a detachable mag but what I really wanted was a wood stock blind mag model and amazingly one came up at auction missing the barrel. I probably paid too much for it but after swapping the barrel onto the M96 model I ended up with a very nice looking and accurate practice rifle.
These were produced by Mauser for only a short time before they went bankrupt and the parts, design and tooling was sold to Roessler where they are still made as the Titan 16. I would love to source another barrel in a different chambering but I don't think Roessler has any distributors in NA right now.
Anyway I just thought I'd share some pics of this unusual rifle, probably not many in Canada. It's a super slick and fast action. Feeding from the internal box mag is flawless. Overall a fun rifle to shoot that consistently groups under an inch with cheap Remington 100gr Corelokt factory ammo. I'm almost out of it and am looking forward to seeing what it can do with some handloads.
