Hello all,
First off, I will start by saying I am not sure if this is the right section. Mods if its in the wrong area, please move it. Thanks

I have a Chilean Mauser 1895 rifle. I really like this gun, but my question is how does it square with the model 98 or even the 96? How much pressure can these rifles handle? At some point I will invest in a really nice rifle chambered in 7x57, but this rifle was properly sporterized and shoots 1/2 moa, with a crisp trigger break... so for now, it is my favorite $100 rifle.

If you are shooting half MOA, just keep shooting that one... unless there are other issues with it. If that is a consistent 1/2 MOA, the barrel must be in good shape.

There are reported locking lug "set-back" issues with some 308 conversions. Personally, if it's chambered in 7x57 or 6.5x55, you don't need anything else. They represent the upper safe pressure limit for this fine old action.
