Finally, after years of threads, stupid questions and thousands of dollars I have assembled the pieces for my custom Mauser build.

I have:

- zastava stainless steel 7x64 barreled action
- Bob Jury stainless benchmark no 2 profile 323 1:9.5 twist barrel. To finish at 24 inches
- wildcat classic ultralight stock
- voere decocking safety system
- voere single set trigger
- talley lightweight ringmounts
- a swarovski z3 3-9x36

The plan? True up the action, put it all together, chamber in 8x57, add a barrel band swivel and guncote the safety to match. Gently bead blast the rest. Set it up for a blind mag, texture the stock (green or black?) And straighten the bolt handle

Questions? Comments? Concerns ?

Apologies for the photo quality I have a 200 dollar phone (priorities)

I've poured money into a Mauser as a target rifle. It was unsatisfactory. To me the offending feature of just about every Mauser 98 is the thumb notch for the clip. The only action I would choose for another Mauser project would be a commercial receiver without the notch.

I don't mind that look with a black barrel, but for me it does not work with stainless.

I'm thinking something along these lines

I don't like them myself either. The zastava is a commercial action, no cutout.

This is very similar to what I have planned for my Zastava stainless 7x64! Wildcat ultralight set up for a blind mag. I'm planning on using an aluminum trigger guard off a Montana. No cheek piece for me though. I talked to Stewart about this and it sounds doable. I also had a Recknagel 3 position stainless safety/shroud assy installed and am using a Timney Featherweight trigger with the safety removed.

no cheek will also be interesting but will remove a little of the mauser moderna spirit ...

Excellent, but no sights? The scope mounting system is a bit boring compared to the rest. You have an occasion to pick a nice twist off mount to go to express sights when even less weight is desired

I’ve got brand new sets of the Recknagel ERA twist off, quick detach return to zero mounts in 1” and 30mm I acquired very reasonably should the OP find the need for the best quick detach setup, and is able to repress his seasonal troll urges.
