Mauser Moderna

I'm good, thanks for the offer though.

I have irons on all my rifles and used to hunt with them a lot, but these days always use scopes. I have never knocked a scope of zero but have damaged sights 2 times now...

My kipplauf has irons and QD talleys. Honestly this is probably the system I would go with. Can't beat the ring mounts from a weight perspective though.

I would like to have a tangent site in the style of an oberndorf sporter filed in. Concern is that anything on the market would be too big. A custom job would be very expensive I imagine. I was thinking maybe a sight from a cz 22 or SAKO vixen.

After much ####ery I have arranged to send the gun to Chris Griesbach to do the metal work using Corlanes reamer.

Mitch Kendall has done many blind mag wildcats and will be doing the stock fitting.

I am very excited by this combo of smiths. Kendall does Martini's synthetic stock work. Griesbach is a real artist and was trained by Martini and Hagn. I can't wait to see it, should be worth the wait

Sourcing a reamer for a 8mm-06 would have been a good option as well. My Zastava 8mm-06 feeds and cycles those rounds just as good as the original chambering.

Chris has finished the metal work.

He stepped outside of his comfort zone and worked on the stainless gun. Also his first Zastava (sorry Chris). Apparently it was very hard metal but he polished it up to complete the work of the Serbian smiths who famously drink plum brandy at lunch.

Stainless talley bolt handle welded on, made a custom stainless barrel band sling swivel too.

The bolt was installed to clear talley lows with the swarovski, but I will likely switch to S&K. If anyone can confirm they are the same height wise that would be great.

Next stop, Mitch for the stock fitting and potentially some guncote to make the safety match the stock.

Chris is great to deal with. He has promised to be there for me when I grow up and want a wood and blued gun. I'll be sure to give him a call when I can afford that.

As for now, the pig has put on its lipstick

Here’s my version, yours should look similar when complete. ZG47 30-06 all original barrreled action in the Mauser Wildcat. Work performed by GE Flach. Completely changed the feel and handling by dumping the factory stock.
