ID base rifle ?

Hi,

I am no expert but the spring off the base rifle should fit. I am assuming you have one of the ex german military ones though. For example I also have an Israeli mauser, that was originally a GEW 98, so I would think the band spring off that variety of rifle should fit.

Could be I am making an incorrect assumption though.

I'm not sure if the Israeli band springs are different from the regular band spring that are on Third Reich Kar98ks. If it isn't, you could try a band spring fitted for a Kar98k.

One of these is what he needs. They are 4.8cm in length and have a pin on the back of the front end that pushes into a hole in the stock clear through to the other side.

Ayup, that's likely what he needs.

A lot of the Israeli Kar 98ks were produced AFTER the war in Czechoslovakia, but had WW2 markings, factory codes, little eagles and swastikas and WaA stamps and all the rest. Reason was that the USSR supported the creation of Israel in order to upset the balance of power in the Middle East. The British were trying to hold things from exploding but there were all these politically "deniable" rifles coming in so, good luck Tommy Atkins. Afterwards, of course, the USSR started backing the Palestinian 'Arabs' because this got the US involved, again upsetting the balance of power.

Result was a lot of War Two rifles made AFTER the war, but perfect specimens just the same. A LOT of these went to Israel and turned up many years later with .308 barrels.... and those suckers can shoot!

But that's the model you want.

So did Adolf, come to think of it.

Those short springs - I see them on lots of early Mausers. I just went through my books and there they are, holding the lower bands on quite a few rifles.

The 1909 Argentine and the others (1933 short, 1935 model). Looks exactly the same!
Brazilian 1908, 1922, 1935, M954 Same here, looks identical!
The Gew 98. Same spring.
The early Belgian rifles as well. M1889 rifle and carbine, M1935 short rifle, M89/36 short rifle.

This would make sense as I doubt the Israelis made them. Someone will know where to get these parts from.
To the best of my knowledge they Israelis made only the following parts: Barrels (duh), beech stock sets, cast lower bands.

Yes, spring-latches such as these were used on quite a number of rifles, including a LOT of 19th-Century rifles.

So there are quite a few different lengths of pin, lengths of entire spring and so forth.

Problem is searching out the exact right one. In this case, any Kar 98k spring-catch should fit.
