I'm not up on Mausers so maybe you fellas can help me out here on this rifle .

The serial numbers match on the barrel and reciever , everything else is different . Metal finish looks A1 on the barrel and receiver , some rust on the buttplate . Bore looks good with well defined grooves .
Stamps ;
- Mod 98 - falcon with swastica (?) left side of reciever
- 44 and byf on top of receiver
- 24G1 on the right side of the receiver
- nice laminated stocks , lightly varnish type finish , no stamps on the butt or forestocks .
-Stock inletted for bolthandle , looks like a " J " stamped in the inlet
-sling , some wear but in very good shape
-bayonet /frog , both in good condition

Any info and a guessitmated value would be greatly appreciated .

Hi, sounds like a nice German WW2 k98 that was refurbished by the Yugoslavians post ww2. Pics would be great, value, around $300 I am guessing?? Take care,

doesnt look like a yugo from here, i cant see the 4 digit serial number on the stock. maybe its just the pictures or my eyes.

btw, your bayonet frog looks origianl german, is it rb. nr. marked on the back side? if so, thats worth quite a bit in itself.
 
The cleaning rod will be 12.5 inches. The 10 inch rods were only used on the very early '30's stocks.

Nice rifle btw. Is there any importer info on the barrel in front of the bayonet lug?

There's no stamps on the barrel at the muzzle end at all .
There's also no stamps on the stocks except a J in the bolthandle inlet .
I havn't stripped it down yet to see if anything is underneath.

The bayo has a few stamps and I'll work on some picts
The bayo frog has stamped on the top backside:
Fried.Schafer
Ulm/Do.
1938

and down along the middle :
LHA (S)...somewhat worn and hard to tell.
 
Mauser K98

Nice Mauser it would make a nice addition to any collection. That would be a good example of a German WWII weapon.
If you ever want to trade it for something let me know.

Not a Yugo, its an original. "44" is 1944, manufactured at "byf" - "Mauser-Werke KG, Oberndorf on the Neckar" - this is the main, original factory. The wood looks refinished, which is unfortunate. It hard to tell whether its been rebuilt by recent owner (mismatched parts), or whether, because it was late production, rearsenaled by MauserWerke, or assembled from scrounged parts. Value - between $500 and $1000, depending...
 
I'd like to see the right side of the receiver, regarding the stamping you are referring to. From the pics it looks very nice. What are the markings on the triggerguard/floorplate? Depending on the month of manufacture, it may or may not be serialed to the receiver (if not it may be marked "BYF" or WaA135, or both). Later byf 44s will not always have the stock numbered on the outside, rather in the barrel channel of the stock.
Yugo reworks are often stamped on the right side of the receiver, and early ones often have not had the "dirty birds" peened. Nice rifle, look forward to more details,

I like your rifle, the markings on the right side are actually on the barrel and not on the receiver (markings on the right side of the receiver are almost always from Yugo reworks). These markings represent the barrel manufacturing code. The triggerguard and floorplate are mismatched, but correct.
A nice rifle that has been refinished by someone it seems from the pics.
Forgot to ask, is the bolt matching to the serial number on the left side of the receiver? Can you disassemble the bolt and check the firing pin for markings?
If really brave, and if you are confident the rifle can take it, disassemble it and look for markings in the channel of the stock.
I think the sling is a postwar one, but easy enough to replace. May be original but repaired.
Mismatched k98 rifles bring $500 and up. Thanks for showing, hold onto her!! Even these are difficult to find now.
I think of all the "bolt only" mismatched rifles I passed up over the years, many were direct bringbacks, all legit....I wish I would have grabbed them all.
Trust me, if you get rid of her, you'll have a tough time replacing it. Thanks for showing a great rifle!
