I know there are tons of VERY knowledgable mauser people on here.

I see stickies for Enfields, Tokarevs, French stuff etc etc, but none for the excellent, confusing (and going up in price) mauser rifles.

Could someone start one up and get a collective of information in one area?

I could start it with the excellent article from Marstar about the Yugoslav mausers.

http://www.marstar.ca/html/reflibrary/yugoslavref.html

I just purchased one of these, and I want to know as much about it as I can, about cleaning and maintenance, and shooting it, and what kind of ammo works best for what, etc etc. I know it sounds a bit self serving, but I am sure there are many more who would also benefit.

thank you very much! :)

Probably over thinking it here but perhaps split it up more and have pre ww1 and ww1, 1920s 30s, ww2 and post ww2 categories (like gunboards? ).

I can see creating sub forums for a few of the more popular milsurps such as the Lee Enfield but leaving a general milsurp forum for the rest. I think have too many sub forums might result in the less popular milsurp ones 'withering on the vine' so to speak from lack of participation.

It might help with the perception of too many stickies in the Milsurp forum but might take away from discussion if a milsurp is tucked away in a forum that is not visited much.

Yeah I can see your point, fugawi. I remember posting topics on Gunboards under the Mannlicher section and it would be go unanswered for a week or two as there just wasn't the traffic on the sub forum.

In the end, it is a double edge sword, eh ?

I think sub forums could be a good thing, but only 2.

Lee enfield type, and mauser type.
Enough info on both to warrant it.

The rest can stay in the main forum, and you'd probably still need to come into the Milsurp forum to access the sub forum, so you could get lots of exposure still.

Bear in mind that I'm an idiot, but I think the stickies would be better as some type of a drop down at the top of the page. Just click on it and they drop down and if nothing interests you, just click to make them disappear again. This way everything stays together, stickies are easy to access and the first page is left for new posts. Maybe the website couldn't support a function like this. Kinda like getting milk from a chicken. Anyways, my two cents, or a nickel nowadays.

Oh I get it about over stickies, but being how complicated and very different each mauser is, and over how many years, countries, calibers etc there are, its just too much for a newbie!

I don't know about more stickies, but we definitely need more forums in my opinion.

Considering how big the milsurp community is on CGN one forum just isn't big enough.

Milsurp pistols still don't even have a true home. Some are posted here, some are posted in the Pistols & Revolvers forum where not many milsurp guys visit.

I just noticed the other day that CGN has over 100,000 members now. I think there is a great deal of interest in milsurps in Canada these days, easily quadrupled in the last ten years or so. If it were otherwise the milsurp prices wouldn't be through the roof.
